I think I read a quaker record somewhere that says she died about 1818. I have inquired at Caesar's Creek Burying Ground where she is supposedly buried, but the caretakers have no record anymore. The quakers generally did not believe in marking their gravesites in a flamboyant and permanent manner;very small simple wooden markers sometimes which would of course rot away quickly. Mary and William left Frederick Co. Va, abut 1748 and next lived in Orange Co. NC where more of their children were born, some married. Then about 1767 they began moving to the 96th District South Carolina (Edge field, Abbeville, Newberry and one more county, I can't think of right now..made up the 96th District). William died in the fall of 1772 or the early Spring of 1773, before John's marriage to Elizabeth (Betty) Pugh. I think Rachel Arnold (who married George) and her mother Mary left South Carolina about 1808 or 1809..I am not looking at any of my research notes these years though. Allen, What do you want to know about these two? We have a Jay Family Association that can help you with this couple. I can get you the address if you would like. Many of us are descended from these two, myself included. There is also JAY-L@rootsweb.com and we discuss these two all the time. Why don't you post this question to our group? Does anybody have any information on John Vestal and Ann Potts. I only have sketchy info and would like to confirm what I have. Thanks, Allen Vestal twindad@access1.com
I know only that they married out of unity so William was not a member of the Quaker faith. They moved to Newberry Co., SC, where Mary is listed as a member and when her children moved to Ohio, the records say Rachel Arnold and her "ancient mother Mary Jay" were given certificate to a meeting in Ohio. Obviously, she lived a very long time. I have never been able to find a death date for her. DJ

I am looking for a Priscilla Vestal b. 1818 in NC. She married Thomas King. The family moved through GA, AL and then to Boone Co., MO where they died in the 1870's. Rene
Alexander Vestal born June 10, 1824 was born out of wedlock to Martha Vestal born 1805 in Surry County , NC , daughter of Jesse Vestal and Martha Cassidy . I believe Martha Casidy and Martha Casady are the same person , name misspelled . Michael Monroe Vestal son of Alexander Vestal was married only once to Martha Shore , but he did have two children with Isabel Finney .
