I also am descended through the Ball family. Haven't found much information on the Vessey family past Thomas and Elisabeth Church. My line goes from Samuel Ball son of William Ball and Margaret Williamson. This William is son of Col. William Ball and Hannah Altherod where the connection to the Vessey family comes into play. Their other son was Joseph Ball grandfather of George Washington. What is your connection to the Ball family would love to hear from another cousin and compare notes. You can email me at [email protected] if you like. Looking forward to hearing from you. Mary Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Hi Sandi Your Vesey story poses a difficult to solve one...I have not heard of it before although it is later than most of our research. David V my cousin and I have been researching many years and I suppose would be the experts in our VESEYs who were the Essex/Suffolk ones who we have researched back to the 14 hundreds...some of those did come to American over the years but I have not heard of an Emily or her story. Perhaps DNA is the only way. Aren't we glad we have that avenue available. However, no answer is a bad answer as it eliminates the possibilities narrowing the path. If Emily is African American then Denmark Vesey might be of interest in the USA. Otherwise the Irish V. might be a direction to search. We quite often have to differentiate between our lot and the Irish group. Even some of the old preserved genealogies in history books and some genealogists try to make a link but when looked at carefully do not make sense and cannot be proven. I wish you luck in your search Linda B.C. Canada I am trying to trace the mother of Emily Vesey who was left at the door of the New York Foundling Hospital on April 21 1902 by her mother as she was unable to provide proper care for the child. Neither the name of the mother or the father were divulged. Emily had been born on April 8th 1902 in the Metropolitan Hospital. Apparently they no longer have records available. I believe there is a connection to England as she was brought up by a Mrs. Mary Douglas who lived in England and Emily lived there and then went to school in Belgium. I have searched shipping lists into England, and out of England, census records etc but can find no trace of Emily going into England. It is a very long shot, but maybe the young lady was American not English and she may have married in time and had more children. Perhaps her living descendant (a male) living in New Zealand and now 85 should have a Mitochondrial DNA test in the hope that some matches may be found.? I am working for our friend to try and find a clue to help him. He has been searching since 1993 and several letters have been written to the Foundling Hospital with years spans between them and each time a little more information has been given but they say nothing is known about who Mrs. Douglas was, or who Emily's mother was. Any help would be appreciated especially by Vesey families in USA. Someone may know something. I have done no further work on him. I have Zadoc and Nancy as siblings. Zadoc married Catherine Swisher and Anne Cosgrove while Nancy married Alexander Hamilton Waples. Father would have been John and mother would have been Elizabeth Waples presumably. Daniel, Edward, Earl and Aaron are not names that appear in the Vesey family originating from Sussex Co, DE. They may be names originating from the spouses' families. More information regarding location would be helpful. Pickaway County and counties northward seem to be the locations of Ohio Vesey family members that I have researched. I believe your Elizabeth who married into the Vesey family was Elizabeth Waples, d/o William Waples and Priscilla Robinson. Elizabeth married Zadok Vesey and had Zadok Vesey, Jr., Mary Waples Vesey, and John Vesey. Her sister Patience Waples also married into the Vesey family when she married William Vesey (probable brother of Zadok, Sr.) in 1794, in Sussex Co., Delaware.
