The Vermont Tribune, Ludlow, Friday, August 9, 1889 Springfield 8/9/1889 C. G. HERRICK is making preparations to attend the National G. A. R. Encampment at Milwaukee, Wis. Rev. Mr. SLACK, formerly of Chester, preached at the Congregational church here, last Sunday. Singing-school under the direction of Prof. J. L. EMMONS is in progress, for a course of twelve lessons. Rev. A. J. AUBREY, formerly of Ludlow, preached as a candidate at the Universalist church, last Sunday. The recent severe rains have washed our streets badly. Mr. DUNCAN, butcher from Perkinsville, got his horse into a hole in crossing the sidewalk near Geo. KIMBALL's, recently, breaking the harness and nearly upsetting his meat-wagon. This place in the sidewalk has for years been an exceedingly dangerous place, after big showers, and should in some way be fixed. C. C. JOHNSON has recently invented a simple machine for folding the slips which are used on all mail-bags in the railway mail service and large post offices. It will be a great saving of time, and it is expected it will go into general use. Transcribed by Ruth Barton -- Ruth Barton mrgjb@sover.net Dummerston, VT
