Source, Rutland Daily Herald--Wed. May 22, 1940. Page 7. Charles A. Spafford. Charles A. Spafford, 86, of North Clarendon, died at his home yesterday morning after a short illness. He was a native of that town, and had been in business as a farmer, and insurance and real estate agent for many years. He was town representative to the state Legislature in 1924 and town lister in 1926. He was a member of the Center lodge, F. & A. M., Davenport chapter, and Phyllis chapter, order of Eastern Star. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ann Jeannette Eddy Spafford; a son, Herbert P. Spafford of North Clarendon and a daughter, Mrs. Berenice Spafford Taylor of Rutland. Other survivors include seven grandchildren, Mrs. Madeline Kolter of Jackson, Mich., Charles A. Spafford, Burt D. Spafford, Maurice E. Taylor, Hiram B. Spafford of Rutland, Donald B. Spafford and Mrs. Doris O'deark of Glens Falls , N.Y., and two nieces, Mrs. Jessie Powers of New York, and Mrs. Edith Marshall of Springfield. The Center lodge of Masons will conduct services at the Tossing funeral home on Washington street tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, (DST). Largely attended funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Tossing funeral home for Charles A. Spafford of North Clarendon, who died Tuesday at his home. Rev. Raymond M. Scott of this city (Rutland) officiated. The Masonic ritual service also was read at the funeral home under the direction of Worshipful Master Cecil W. Utley and John Brims, chaplain, of Center lodge, F. & A. M. The bearers were Leland Page, Porter Bidgood, Frank E. Dennis, James C. Perkins, George Leonard and James A. Moran. The Spafford family received flowers from officers and directors of the State Mutual Fire insurance company, Phyllis chapter, O.E.S., Center lodge, Marble City council and auxiliary, United Commercial Travers, North Clarendon neighbors and others. Rev. Scott read the committal service at the burial in Spafford cemetery in North Clarendon. Among those from out of the state who attended the funeral were Mrs. Hugh Spafford, Mr. and Mrs. D. B.
