My grgrgreat grandfather John Travis was born abt 1826-1832 in Vermont. In 1855 he was living in Orleans County, NY, married to Lillie Rochester Hill. I have no information on John Travis prior to this census, where they were listed as "Traverse." They moved from Orleans country to outside Rochester, NY in the 1960s. Any information or suggestions are desired. I have found them listed as Traverse, Travers and Travis. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hello, In conjunction with research for my book, Ballykilcline Rising / From Famine Ireland to Immigrant America, I put together a database of Roscommon men who naturalized in Rutland courts. Among them are four men with the Travis (and variant) names, all born in Roscommon between 1830 and 1849. Their names were Bernard Travers (b. 1836), John Traverse (b. 1830), Patrick Travers (b. 1830), and Patrick L. (b. 1849), all born in Roscommon. All lived in Rutland.?A witness for John?Traverse was John Carlin, who?emigrated from the Strokestown-Kilglass Parish area of County Roscommon and who is a character in my book.? If you are interested in additional information,?let me know. Mary Lee Dunn ?
