from the Derby History Book by the Hay sisters: Hi Sylvia T., On pg. 34 Chapter 8 - Qualified as Freemen 1798-1811 - taking oath required by law March 27, 1799 - were Isaac Severance and James Severance - also a John Severans. On pg.13 The Ryan Farm (in 1967) overlooking Lake Salem for many yrs. was owned by the Severens family. Nathaniel Sevrens, came from NH in 1832 and settled on the west shore of the lake. His granddaughter, Mrs.Glen Sevrens Morrill, wrote a letter to VT Life Magazine after its Autumn 1952 publication of the story of the hidden treasure - names mentioned - Caroline and George N. Jan Thank you so much! And thank JF! YES! These are my ancestors! Nathaniel Severance was my great great grandfather! My great grandmother Maria or Martha grew up on his farm. About which there is a story on the web apparently treasure stolen long ago from the Abenaki was hidden on his farm by soldiers I am thrilled to learn Glen Sevrens was a woman I never knew who Glen was nor could I discover where Glen went. Perhaps now I can trace that part of the family. I will add this to my files.
