Source- "History of Rutland County", by Smith & Rann, 1886 page 933. CHARLES M. BRUCE Bruce, Charles M.,Danby, was born in Salem, N.Y., in 1815, and died in Danby, Vt., in 1869. He was a prominent merchant and business man of the town of Danby, settling here in 1844. He was mail agent from Troy to Rutland, and postmaster for many years. He was married in 1844 to Phebe Smith, of Danby; they had two children, Ella and George A. Mr. Bruce was a son of Thomas Bruce. Mrs. Bruce was a daughter of Asa and Rhoda (Baker) Smith, who had four children, Phebe, Martha, Reuben and Eben.
