If so, I don't think they were organized that early. There are published marriage records for that church that don't start until 1854, which I assume was the beginning of the church. You might find records of marriages in St. Joseph's church in Burlington, also published (no, I take that back: they start in 1830). My guess is that they were married in Canada, if they were Catholic. Being so close to the border, and the border being what it was at that time, my bet is on a church in lower Quebec. If they were Protestant, there was both a Baptist and a Congregationalist church in Swanton that early. We have the Baptist church records here in Special Collections at the University of Vermont, and a history of the Congregational church but not, I believe, the church records. There was also the Stansted (Que.) Freewill Baptist church, and we have their records as well. Let me know if I can be of help in searching these collections. I have found no birth record ANYWHERE and only start compiling information on JED once he is in Sorel, Quebec with Mary and children in 1816. NOTHING BEFORE except glimpses of what people remember seeing somewhere, etc. > > I am so grateful for any help you can offer. If possible I can break this down and find something this year.
