from Vermont Standard 1862? "Men of Woodstock: The Cottles," says, "Sylvanus and Joseph married sisters, daughters of Andrew Powers. Both couple [sic] were married at the same time at John Sanderson's (now [in 1862] Wondard [?] R. Fitch's) in the Spring of 1775. All the inhabitants in town were invited, and as the house was small they repaired to the door-yard, and were waited upon in nature's grand saloon, where Sol in his glory could witness the pleasant and happy circle of friends on the bank of old Ottauquechee [sp?]. This was said to be the first wedding in town." My note: Andrew POWERS b. ca 1720 Greenwich, Worcester, MA, m. Lois EMMONS and lived in Woodstock, Windsor, VT, were my maternal 5 great grandparents.
