    1. Re: [VERMONT] Hitchcock - Hickock/Hickox

    3. Thank you, Sylvia! Our Atwood ancestors (Stephen Atwood m/ Mercy Finch) were the first settlers in the Beekmantown, NY area (outside of Plattsburgh) and I remember Adie Shields (Historian of Clinton Co. NY, now retired) mentioned the Hickok family to me and for some reason I believe they were connected to our Atwoods (there). But that family (Hickok) came from VT. The Atwoods that you referenced (from Plymouth MA) 1630's, are Stephen's ancestors. They travelled from Plymouth to Carver, MA then into VT (Shoreham), then to upstate NY. If you stumble on any Elkinses (Vt or) anywhere in New England, please let me know. I'm working on their genealogy. We are all connected somehow! Appreciated your help. 1. Re: [VERMONT] Elkins family

    3. Ricky, I found Elkinses both in the 1790 and 1800 censuses and in Abby Hemenway's Vermont Historical Gazetteer, which is a compendium of early Vermont town histories published in the late 19th century. In the 1790 census, there were Elkinses in Bennington, Orange, Caledonia, and Windham counties. In Abbey Hemenway, there are a lot in Peacham, with a scattering in other towns like Greensboro, Swanton, Irasburg, Williston, and Brownington. Sylvia On Tue, 3 Mar 2009, E.
