There are few Regiment histories. I use a CD from Ancestry.com "Military Records: War of 1812 Muster rolls". The nice thing about the CD is that you can search the following categories individually, together, or by more than one. These are First name, Last name, Company, Rank in, etc., so if I wanted to locate every person that was recorded in the War of 1812 with the first name of Leonard, I just place Leonard in the first name category and hit search. I can then check all of your names Barnes, Barns, Barrons. The only Leonard that served from the above surnames was a Leonard Barns serving in Captain Hopkins company, Col Martindale's Reg't. With this CD you can also pull up every member of Colonel Martindale's Regiment. There were 634 with 10 Captains. Another source; "State of Vermont, Roster of Soldiers in the War of 1812" by The Adjutant General lists all of the vermont soldiers and where they were from, if known. This is where I located the residence for Martindale, and Hopkins came from the 1810 vermont census. Most companies elected their Captains, but nothing is cast in concrete. An interesting note is that there was also a Leonard Burns in this Regiment. There is no listing for a Leonard Barnes, or Leonard Barrons that served anywhere in the war of 1812.
