    1. [VERMONT] Marriage--Alice Miles to Mitchell Shatney about 1875

    3. This was from a kind and helpful person on the Quebec list.  I would like to join the Lamoille list also can someone send me the address. Thanks Harriet Hi Harriet- Those dates came from the 1900 census which lists month and year of birth. I was actually surprised that their ages stayed so consistent. That isn't usually the case with 50 years of census records, but they always show ages that make them born about 1861.  In 1880 they were living in Eden, Lamoille County, VT In 1900 they were living in Lowell, Orleans County, VT In 1910 they were living in Albany, Orleans County, VT In 1920 they were living in Albany, Orleans County, VT In 1930 they were living in Albany, Orleans County, VT If you aren't in Vermont, have you tried RAOGK - Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness? There are a couple volunteers in Vermont who might be able to help you. And, maybe it will just take another set of eyes looking at the same record. http://www.raogk.org/ Note also that Ancestry has records of both Alice and Mitchell in the American Genealogical-Biographical Index. I think this might be available at NEGH Library, among other places. Maybe someone can check that for you. Have you seen this posting and contacted the descendant of Irene Shatney? I don't know their parents names, unless that is Alice in 1870 with her father, Orrison Miles in  Hardwick, VT. If so, his wife's name in the 1860 census was Alma. And, there is a Shatney message board on Rootsweb and one woman seems to know a lot about this couple, including the names of Mitchell's father and grandfather: http://boards.ancestry.myfamily.com/surnames.shatney/32/mb.ashx Hope one of these tips will help. I have searched VT Vital Records several times and never found their dates of birth. According to the 1900 census this couple married about 1879, as they   had been married 21 years. Mitchell was born June 1861 in Canada,   Alice March 1861 in Vermont. Then in the 1930 census it says they were   married at the age of 18 (Mitchell) and 19 (Alice). If accurate, that   actually narrows the date of marriage to being before Mitchell's 19th   birthday in June 1880, but after Alice's 19th birthday in March 1880.   To add to that information, their first son Clarence was born in May   1880, according to the 1880 census. At the time of that census,   Mitchell was still 18 and Alice was 19. According to the 1920 census, Mitchell was not naturalized and he   immigrated in 1870. So, it seems possible that the marriage would have   been in Vermont. I did not find Mitchel Shatney in the 1870 census in   the U.S., though. Note also that in two of the later censuses Mitchell was said to have   been born in Vermont. In the 1870 census there was a 9 year old Alice Miles living in   Hardwick, VT in a family headed by Orrison Miles.
