The Vermont Tribune, Ludlow, Friday, January 4, 1889 East Wallingford 1/4/1889 As reported last week, the Christmas tree at the Baptist church was a very pleasant affair, with one exception. There were several young men there who cannot properly be called gentlemen, and these, with a lot of smaller boys, acted very rude indeed--in fact, very indecent,--to the annoyance of others who went there to behave themselves and enjoy the exercises. And after the company dispersed they so annoyed and frightened two girls that they sought protection from the sheriff. I will refrain from calling names, this time, but will promise these young men that the next public gathering that is disturbed by them they will at least see their names in print. The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. F. G. WILLARD gave them a surprise party, the 25th ult. It was a complete surprise to them; but the merry party went prepared for business, carrying all the eatables with them for a grand dinner--roast turkey, chicken, etc., with pies, cakes, fruits, and every thing for a first-class dinner. Mr. and Mrs. WILLARD return thanks for the visit and many kindness. Charles FULLER has had a shock, and is quite low. Mrs. George L. WILDER is not any better.
