Thanks- I knew that (for instance) Rocky Mt Spotted Fever was caused by a tick, but wondered how that could be the issue in Vermont in the winter of 1812? It evidently started in Burlington within the Army that was stationed there in 1811 and then "spread to the citizenry". Your probably right about the typhus. Appreciate your help. -----Original Message----- From: Darrell A. check out this web site http://www.vermontgenealogy.com/history/spotted_fever_epidemic.htm it states "deaths in Vermont reached 6,000 by this disease alone, or about one death in 40 inhabitants. The disease is supposed to be the same as that now called cerebro-spinal-meningitis" Sylvia T On Mar 2, 2011, at 12:14 PM, [email protected] wrote: > > Thanks- I knew that (for instance) Rocky Mt Spotted Fever was caused > by a tick, but wondered how that could be the issue in Vermont in > the winter of 1812?
