Friend: There is aTown Clerk of Hancock to whom you might either write or call. She might be able to provide information. There is a library in Hancock, but it might be best to make contact with the Town Clerk. The nearest historical society would be in the neighboring town of Rochester, Vermont. Hancock does have a school and has had one for years. Records for this might be found in the Town Clerk's office. Go on-line for addresses and phones. Forrest
Hi Kelly, Verne Spear who wrote the book, is a cousin of mine, he is alive. I do also have a signed copy of the book. Plus, you will find it located in any major library in the 'resources' section. I also am a Spear descendant, and was able to contribute a great deal of info to Verne's work. I have all of Verne's work incorporated into my database as well. I also look to fill any of the open holes that are on the outside branches. Oh by the way, if you care to purchase one of the books, Verne or his daughter have copies that you can purchase. I'm anxious to hear your reaction to the book. I think you'll love it. Tons of information. Take a look at this site for other years. What was Grandpa's name? I'll do some looking on it for you. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nekg3/nekg-outside.htm ----- Original Message ----- From: "Harriet Cady" <kd1843@verizon.net> To: <vermont@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, December 22, 2008 4:56 PM Subject: Re: [VERMONT] Vt State Prison, finding info about inmates Thanks Bev. Mom said Grandpa went to prison for making bootleg liquor during prohibition. Maybe it was the 1920's cause he wasn't in the 30's. I called Roland today and sent a check to my sister made to him forthe book and asked her to pick it up. It is nice of you to keep me informed about Hardwick. I have lately been on the quebec site trying to find Mitchell Shatney marriage to Alice Miles, I think it may have been around Stanstead in 1880, someone wrote a Cowansville marriage of Michel Shateny and Alice J. Miles in 1879 and that may be it.
