    2. Source, The Poultney Journal--Fri. Feb. 20, 1925. Page 1. THINGS THAT HAPPENED FORTY YEARS AGO. Taken from Journal of Feb. 20, 1885. Several strangers were "laid over" in Poultney during the recent storm. Quickly spread the news Wednesday morning when a few learned that a mail train had arrived from Troy. We cannot give any news of the fore part of the week outside of the village, as no mails were received. When the train arrived here on Wednesday it attracted a good deal of attention. People ran from all directions yet no one seemed to be "afraid of the cars." The wind-storm on Monday took several squares of slate from the barn of John L. Ward, scattering the slate in all directions and sending one, crashing through blind and window, into the house, passing close to Mrs. Ward's head, but fortunately doing no further injury. Report from Stamford, Bennington county, says that a horse and cutter and two men were caught up and carried over a fence and deposited in a huge snow bank, during the storm of last Monday. Mrs. F. Burpee has rented rooms to R.G. M. Johnson. Mrs. R. W. Goodrich and Miss Hattie Monroe spent Sunday in Salem with Mrs. B. G. Rice. Miss Nettie Forbes has gone to Chester, N.Y., to spend a short time with friends. Transcribed by, Joan H. Bixby Genealogy not just a hobby, but a labor of love.

    3. Hoping for assistance with finding the 1808 death/burial record of Hannah wife of Josiah Reed or Read (spelling variations). I believe Hannah was 60 years old when she died, so a DOB around 1748.   Hannah's husband, Josiah Reed, died at Westfield VT in 1804 but I am not sure what happened to Hannah after that, i.e. whether or not she remained at Westfield?? Her son, Rodolphus Reed, lived at Westfield, and I believe there were daughters living in Grafton County VT....Hannah may have stayed with any of them?  Hannah's maiden name may have been Fuller but I am not certain of this, seems likely her death is under Reed or Read???   Would really appreciate finding further information on Hannah.   Thanks Janice

    2. Does anyone have access to other Vermont Papers? I found the following in a Plattsburgh, NY paper. The subject is my gggrandmother Plattsburgh Sentinel November 1890 Since writing the above we are Informed —Mrs Patrick Gregory, an aged lady and mother of Patrick Gregory, went a few months since to reside with her son in Vermont, who lives near a railroad. In crossing the track, she was killed by a passing train. Her remains were brought to her old home and friends for burial a few days since. Bridget Gregory died Oct 28, 1890 in Bolton, VT. I have searched the microfilm of the Burlington Free Press but did not find anything. If her "remains were brought to her old home" she was buried in Saranac, NY, but there is no record of her burial--she is not in the plot with her husband and son.
