if you google? 'language translator' or 'language translation',? there is a program that comes up you can connect into that you can cut and paste the text you want translated, checkin g off the language it is in, and what language you want translated to...then you can print it out. Example:? French to English. -----Original Message----- From: Don Krieger <akadonnew@verizon.net> To: vermont@rootsweb.com Sent: Tue, 3 Feb 2009 3:46 pm Subject: Re: [VERMONT] French translation You can use Babelfish to translate words, phrases, or blocks of text: http://babelfish.yahoo.com/ There also are French language oriented Rootsweb lists. Hello, I have found that the word, timeline, is useful when learning about history. If you go to this web site, you will find an "epidemic timeline." http://hawkshome.net/misc_items/events/epidemic_timeline.htm And, if you search for that term, you will find other sites. And, if you are interested in the history of a State, using the word, timeline, in your on-line search, will hopefully find useful sites. Betty (near Lowell, MA) FYI: My ancestors in northern Maine lost a son and daughter-in-law within a year of their marriage, and a 16-year-old daughter, during the 1860's. It is my hunch that there was a "flu epidemic" in that area at the time. Something which has been discussed on a few Lists this month is Diptheria, which it turns out is a nasty disease.
Thank you Darrell, We try so hard to go through ours lists and not miss anything important. Being distracted by political comment on a board such as this is SOO annoying. kd -----Original Message----- From: vermont-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:vermont-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of vermont-request@rootsweb.com Sent: Tuesday, February 03, 2009 10:08 PM To: vermont@rootsweb.com Subject: VERMONT Digest, Vol 4, Issue 39 When replying to a digest message, please do not just hit Reply (which will send the entire digest back to the list). There are some people (Whitney family) who had these deaths: (Emily and Silsby Whitney were siblings.) - Emily Whitney (wife of Orlo Towne), died at Stowe in 1874. - Silsby Whitney and his wife, Mary (Knapp) Whitney both died in May and March 1879, respectively.? I found their children (Minnie and Henry) living with another family in 1880. I don't have death records on these individuals to see if they list the cause of the death. I know there were a lot of epidemics and sicknesses/diseases in these early times, but I'm not familiar with what diseases were most prevalent during this particular time period Thanks! ------------------------------ Message: 5 Date: Tue, 3 Feb 2009 12:04:49 -0600 From: " Westerfield" <westerfield@charter.net> Subject: Re: [VERMONT] Important message re: current politics on Vermont-L To: <vermont@rootsweb.com> Message-ID: <7E7AC95D410D43A788239013A4D96B25@GEORGE> Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset="iso-8859-1"; reply-type=original Thank you for trying to keep this list on topic. Hi- I have a copy of an old Canadian registar of marriages that I need translated. Its very faded and the print is sketchy. I have figured out some of it, but if I had some help I think through context we could figure gather more information about these people. Any ideas on where to go to find help in this? Thanks as always
Does anyone have a clue as to a possible epidemic in Vermont (effecting the Stowe area) that would have occurred around 1874-1879? There are some people (Whitney family) who had these deaths: (Emily and Silsby Whitney were siblings.) - Emily Whitney (wife of Orlo Towne), died at Stowe in 1874. - Silsby Whitney and his wife, Mary (Knapp) Whitney both died in May and March 1879, respectively.

Looking for children born to William Howard and Mary Dana of Reading, Windsor, Vermont. I have found one child, Charles D, who married Nancy Collins about 1817 in Reading. Charles died 08 Jan 1865 in Detroit and Nancy died 19 Jan 1852 in Detroit. Both are buried in Elmwood Cemetery, in Detroit, in a lot owned by Charles Talmage. I do not know if they had any children. There was a Thankful Howard living with William on the 1860 census, she was 63. Don't know if she was a second wife, or a sister. Any help would be appreciated. Does anyone know whether it was common practice for 12 and up boys to be enlisted during the War of 1812? If no one has the answer, do any of you have a suggestion for where I can find an answer? Thanks for the help. Ward Kent
