    1. [VERMONT] Reed/Perkins ~ Westfield VT
    2. Peter & Janice Lodge
    3. Hoping to find further information on  Fannie Perkins born about 1832, most likely in one of the ETs ~ maybe in Brome County?? Parents names??   Fannie Perkins married about 1849 Royal Reed (Read?) the son of Rodolphus Reed of Westfield VT. Royal Reed was born 28 March 1822 in Westfield VT, he died 21 Aug 1851 in Westfield VT.   Royal and Fannie are listed in the 1850 US census at Westfield along with their first child, a daughter, named Asenath who is 8mths old at the time of the census,  as the census was taken on the 10 Sep 1850 Asenath Reed was most likely born January 1850....   With Royal Reed dying in 1851 I have lost track of what happened to Fannie and Aseneth. There may have been another daughter, Lydia Ann, perhaps born after Royal's death?   Further info appreciated, thank you Janice And there are men who scale the mountain steeps And there are men who sink in ocean's deeps, And there are men why on deserts die, And other men to starry heavens fly; And we shall fail, or soar to heavenly things, As our forefathers gave us weights or wings.                                         ~ Alice Carter Cook

    1. [VERMONT] 1891--Rutland Area Police Reports
    2. Source, Rutland Daily Herald--Tue. May 5, 1891. WITH THE POLICE. A West Rutland Man Hurls a Bottle at Conductor Dougherty's Head. John Groonell, of West Rutland, was locked up at the house of correction early last evening by Deputy Sheriff Fish on a charge of intoxication. He went to Whitehall on the 1 o'clock train, got gloriously drunk and returned on the train due here at 5 o'clock, which was over an hour behind time. Deputy Sheriff Fish was on the train, and but for his presence Groonell would probably have made trouble Conductor Dougherty. He had a few words with the conductor as he left the train at West Rutland, and as the latter pulled away from the depot platform Groonell hurled an empty bottle at Conductor Dougherty's head, but it missed the mark. The train was stopped and Deputy Fish took the fellow in charge, bringing him to Rutland. He will probably have a hearing in West Rutland today. DISCLOSED ON THE TOWN AGENT Harry Bancroft of Chippenhook got drunk Sunday evening, and for a time had matters his own way. He demolished furniture and aroused the whole neighborhood, it being understood that he abused his family. Grand Juror Fisk took Bancroft to the house of correction, where he was locked up, and yesterday Deputy Sheriff Whittaker took the prisoner to North Clarendon, where he had a trail before Justice J. B. Moore. The result was that the prisoner was fined $5 and costs for intoxication and $20 for breach of the peace, amounting to $39.02 He disclosed on the West Rutland town liquor agent, whose case will be investigated today. OFFICER ELWORTH'S ARREST. Officer Elworth arrested Henry Gavin last evening on a warrant charging him with intoxication. He pleaded guilty before Justice Mann and was fined $5 and costs. Gavin disclosed on John Caden, who was fined for selling and keeping. He took an appeal. J.B. Moore prosecuted the case. Transcribed by, Joan H. 3. The Vermont Phoenix, Brattleboro, Friday , January 16, 1891 Whitingham news The Reported Financial Troubles of the Deerfield Vally Shoe Company Wit regard to the failure of the Deerfield Vally Shoe Company we learn tht the facts are tht a good business was done until the general financial disturbance began in November, when the company had orders for $20,000 countermanded, over $16,000 of which was in process of manufacture and was consequently tied up as so much dead property. This disorganized the force of 80 hands and caused a large loss. At the same time losses were caused by the failure of concerns at the business centres. The total losses thus sustained amounted to nearly $12,000 and so reduced the resources that the inventory of December 31 showed assets of a little less than the liabilities. Notice of the exact state of affairs was sent to creditors and a meeting called for Jan. 7, in Boston. At this meeting the creditors expressed satisfaction with the honest showing and voted to accept 65 cents on the dollar and have the business continued. It is expected that this arrangement will be carried out. Through this courteous action of the creditors it is probable that no regular failure will be made, necessitating a formal assignment, but that the affairs of the company will be satisfactorily adjusted by mutural agreement. The company will have the dood wishes to this effect of every one locally, and for its future prosperity. Transcribed by Ruth Barton -- Ruth Barton mrgjb@sover.net Dummerston, VT
