I am posting this information in case there are any surnames here that are "bell ringers" for family relationships and interconnections to any other HANCOCK family or other family. Nancy/Ann DICKENSON/DICKERSON, dau/o Nathaniel DICKENSON & #1 Lucy ???, b ca 1760 probably Louisa Co., VA; married Joseph HANCOCK; was an heir in her step-brother's (Tarlton B. LUCK's) estate in 1797; & died after 1850 probably Hanover Co., VA. Joseph HANCOCK was b 1759 probably Hanover Co., VA & d 1833 Hanover Co., VA. Siblings of Nancy (DICKENSON) HANCOCK included: John DICKENSON, Noten DICKENSON, Nathaniel DICKENSON, Martha "Patsy" DICKENSON (m George WILKERSON), Garland DICKENSON (m Louisa Co., VA to Elizabeth SNELSON), & DABNEY DICKENSON. After the death of Lucy (???) DICKENSON, Nathaniel DICKENSON m ca 1775 the widow, Elizabeth (?BROWN) LUCK (maiden name probably Elizabeth BROWN, dau/o Tarlton BROWN of Louisa Co., VA). Elizabeth (?BROWN) LUCK had children: Austin LUCK , Sarah LUCK (m Henry SMITH), Tarleton B. LUCK (m Crosha "Cassandra" Cassety KENNEDY), Larkin LUCK , Mary LUCK (m Charles FORREN/FASON/FORTSON), & Elizabeth LUCK (m Bartlett/Bartelot SNELSON). Joseph HANCOCK & Nancy DICKENSON had at least one son Joseph HANCOCK Jr. who was born in 1791 and died sometime after 1850 when he appears in the Hanover Co., VA census with his mother. Others listed as living with them in the census include Amelia HANCOCK (40), Sarah A. HANCOCK (believed to be Sarah A. P. (WALLER) HANCOCK, wf/o Joseph HANCOCK, Jr.)(37), Harriet B. HANCOCK (13), Joseph W. HANCOCK (11), Elizabeth HANCOCK (9), John W. HANCOCK (5) and Susan F. HANCOCK (2). However, I do not have the data as to relationship of these other HANCOCKs mentioned in 1850 Census to Nancy (DICKENSON) HANCOCK or her son, Joseph HANCOCK, Jr. Is Amelia HANCOCK a sister of Joseph, Jr., as I believe Sarah is his wife, and the children are probably children of Joseph Jr. & Sarah? I believe children of Joseph HANCOCK & Nancy DICKENSON included: John HANCOCK (m Louisa Co., VA to Susan Pettus GRAVES), Tarleton HANCOCK, Benjamin HANCOCK, William HANCOCK, & Larkin HANCOCK (m Louisa Co., VA to Sarah PETTUS) besides the Joseph HANCOCK, Jr. (m Louisa Co., VA to Sarah A. P. WALLER) mentioned above. I further believe Joseph HANCOCK (hus/o Sarah) is brother of (Capt.) John HANCOCK b 1753 possibly Hanover Co., VA; m 1774 to Nancy Ann GRAVES, dau/o Thomas GRAVES & Isabella BARTLETT. (Capt.) John and Nancy lived in Louisa Co., VA before removing to KY and finally to Butler Co., OH. I believe that both appear to be sons of Benjamin HANCOCK (possibly b York Co., VA being a son of John HANCOCK of York Co., VA) who it appears owned land in Hanover Co., VA and Louisa Co., VA. Susan Pettus (GRAVES) HANCOCK mentioned above was niece of Nancy Ann (GRAVES) HANCOCK. Thus it appears John & (Capt.) John, their husbands, were also uncle & nephew. Benjamin HANCOCK b ?York Co., VA, ?s/o John HANCOCK of York Co., VA; married Mary BEADLES.
