Thank you...Very interesting....Margaret There is a small community located in the southeastern end of York County, VA that is called TABB. I know because I live there. It has been called Tabb forever and it is so called because of the Tabb family that once lived all around here. There are only a few members of that family left here who actually use or have the name of Tabb, but some of other Tabb family names are still prevalent around here. Two of them are SINCLAIR and SMITH (particularly GEORGE LEVEN SMITH). There is a very old house, Thorpland, on Calthrop Neck Road in Tabb that has been in the Smith/Sinclair family since Christopher Calthrop first came to these shores in the mid 1600s. The name was once spelled Calthorp, but it is the same family. My daughter was an Art History major at Ole Miss a few years ago with an emphasis on southern decorative arts and she wrote a paper on the history of Thorpland. The College of William & Mary had tons of information on the house and the family. I mention all of this as there is a strong connection between the 2 families, Smith/Sinclair and Tabb. ==== VA-SOUTHSIDE Mailing List ==== NOTICE: Posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, etc. is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for immediate removal and exclusion from this mailing list.
