He moved to GA @1820 and married Permelia Ann Davis in Oglethorpe Co. in 1826. Of 14 known children, they had only 3 daughters - one b. and d. @1830, name not known - Permelia Ann and Lucy Jane (my gmother). Their sons were: James Madison - Charles - P.D., Jr. - Bergus/Bergen Lucien -William Earl - Albinus J.- Toliver(a Davis name)- Joseph H.-Robert Gaston - Eugenius Augustus and Martin L. I'm trying to locate Peyton's parents and birthplace in VA. After years of searching, there are few leads. In Nansemond Co. a James Saunders was mentioned in Thomas Godwin's 1753 will. Since Peyton's oldest son was James, it is not unlikely that his father would also be a James. In Rappahannock Co, a James Saunders is mentioned. In Surry Co., the Spratley Will mentions Mary Saunders, dau. of Robert. Peyton named a son Robert. In York Co, there is mention of a Robert Saunders b.there in 1600s. I'm grasping at straws. Do any of you recognize the names of any of the above children as Saunders family names? I also wondered about connections with a Peyton family or a Dickinson family, but can't find anything to support that theory. I would so much appreciate any help.
