He first appeared in Perquimans County North Carolina records no earlier than 11/Sep/1694. He and Elizabeth Eivans were married by Governor Thomas Harve at that date. Anyone doing research on him would like to share info. I have been working on this family for at least twenty nine to thirty years, and it has taken me this long to correct many of the mistakes in the sources I have. Since 1969 I have been looking for more information. Would like information on his parents. There was a John OATES killed during the Indian Wars in 1675. In New England, not certain but James's son Joseph's eldest son and his grandson James also had an eldest son named John, have not proof this is the father though. Thank you Jacob L. Bateman III
