    3. Posted on: York County, VA -- Query Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/York?read=390 Surname: ------------------------- Hello, Thanks for your mail. Unfortunately, I do not know the ancestry to my GARDNERS. I just know they were connected to my WILLIAMSONS, who received a land grant in old Craven Co., Prince Fredericks Parish, S.C., in Kingstree. This was in the 1730s. They later lived in the Darlington and Florence area of S.C., and then moved on to other areas southwest and west. I know there were GARDNERS that lived in the Anson Co., area, but the families that lived along the PeeDee River lived and migrated all up and down the river. In the early days they were able to take barges and paddle-wheel boats up and down the river. This gave the families a chance to move to what they felt was a better location. I do know that the area in the lowlands of S.C. was not very healthy, and the some of the families moved up the river, and more inland. I wish that I could help you more. Bobbie

    3. Posted on: York County, VA -- Query Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/York?read=379 Surname: Faulk, Carlisle, Sims, Long ------------------------- I do not have anything on Luke Faulk other than what I found here and there. Luke Faulk apparently lived in Botancourt (?) Co, Va, married first Marie Lisilin and then Sarah Ripley all about 1760. My Richard arrived 1688 in York Co, Va. He was "imported" by Capt. Francis Page of York Co, VA. In 1704 Richard paid taxes on 100A in Nansemond, VA. He died in 1712 in Chowan Co, NC. From his will we learned his wife was Elizabeth. Children were an unnamed daughter and four sons, John, William, Johnathan and Richard. His will was witnessed by a Richard Faulk which means another Faulk family was in that area. Maybe your Luke ties in to that line?

    2. Doug Swords
    3. Posted on: York County, VA -- Query Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/York?read=377 Surname: Swords ------------------------- Hi Joy! Yes, I realize that his pension statement said PA, but I am not so sure that it is accurate. He was 79 years old, if his year of birth was accurate, and it is possible that he did not specify the state and the recorder made an assumption. I am questioning his year of birth as well. Later census records place his birth date as early as 1749. The reason I am questioning this is there are two other York counties(VA and SC) full of Swords and there are very few in PA from the same time period. There are no immigration records of Swords coming into PA, no birth or marriage records either prior to 1800. They don't appear on any census records or tax rolls. Since records in PA are particularly good for that time period, and he doesn't appear in any of them anywhere, I now question the document. John Swords (SC) and James both mention their father fighting in the Rev as well. It certainly could be coincidence, but I am checking every York County in the coastal states just to be sure.
