    1. [VAYORK-L] Many Thanks! (from Archivist)
    2. Jeannie
    3. I wanted to take a moment to thank all of you who responded to my earlier apology regarding the Archives. You have all been SO supportive!!! It really means alot to me. I would have preferred to answer you all individually, but there were so MANY responses!!! I did want to answer a couple of questions that I received though. Yes, I do take care of the archives on a volunteer basis, and I continually stretch myself to take care of as many counties as I can because I, like you, want to make sure that new files do continue to be uploaded and that the counties are cared for. Sometimes I have the time & energy to do a fantastic job updating the pages on a timely basis, and sometimes, I just don't have what it takes. But all in all, I love taking care of the Archives and watching them grow. I think it's a wonderful way to volunteer my time & hope I'll be able to continue to do so for a very long time. I have completed the uploads for July, minus a couple of small changes that need to be made and also minus the scanned documents. My next goal is to complete those & then I'll move on to the new files received in August. Then I will send notification to the individual county lists for all the new files uploaded during July & August. After that, I will start work on organizing some new counties that I have adopted. Once those pages are updated, I'll subscribe to the mailing lists for those counties & notify the folks there that the counties now have a new archivist who will TRY to post new files on a timely basis :) I'm sure those folks will be happy as I don't believe those counties have had anything new posted in quite some time. Once again, thanks so much for your support and all your kind words!!! It's good to know that there are real people out there (and nice ones too!) that are benefiting from my time & effort. Thanks again, you're the best!!! 1. [VAYORK-L] Archives
    2. Jeannie
    3. I just wanted to take this time to apologize to everyone for how far behind I have fallen with the Archives. This has been one heck of a summer :) But it's been fun, just extremely busy. I have updated the WV counties with files recieved during July, so those are already online for you to see. I am now working on the Virginia Counties. The first update I do will be for files rcvd in July, so if you've sent a file in August, it won't be on this update. I need to finish one month before I begin on another. My youngest just started kindergarten and I haven't started back to work yet, so next week I plan to spend getting everything all caught up. Assuming nothing goes wrong, I should have time to get it all done. Thank you all for your patience with me :) Also, I have inherited three new counties in Virginia and will begin working on those web pages after I have finished my work on the counties I have pending files for. Those counties are Goochland, Henrico, and Hanover. So be thinking of anything that you'd like to submit for those counties and soon I'll be posting new files there as well. Thanks again for all of you who have supported me and the archives. I hope to be more prompt in the future :) Jeannie ************* Now Available: "The Descendants of John Thomas Clay, Jamestown Immigrant and son of Sir John Clay of Wales" Also available: "The Descendants of James Bailey & Lucy Simms" For more info: http://www.trellis.net/users/madamx

    1. [VAYORK-L] Wells Land Grant, Old Albemarle NC, c1663
    2. Brett F. Woods
    3. I am trying to establish some parameters on the individuals identified in the "Mount" Wells land grant that is abstracted below. Note this is an exact transcription of the entry from the book "Old Albemarle and Its Absentee Landlords" by Worth S. Ray. (Genealogical Publishing Company, Baltimore, 1976) "LT. (or ST.) MOUNT WELLS, 600 acres on the West side of the Chowanokee River, running by land lately surveyed for JAMES MURDOH, running East, etc. Dated September 25, 1663, and for the transportation of 12 persons, among whom were THOMAS POORE, JOSEPH HILL, THOMAS HIGH, JAMES WHITE, THOMAS BAYLEY and THOMAS and WILLIAM WOOD." The author notes that the Wells Family (he also refers to them as "Wills") came from the York-James City peninsula of VA and that they used the same Christian names in both locations. He further speculates that they are the same family. This area in NC eventually became Chowan and then Bertie County. 1. Who was "Mount" Wells, and did he ever actually move to NC? 2. Did any of his "transportees" actually move to NC? 3. Has anyone identified any of the children of either the Thomas or William Wood mentioned in the abstract? Thanks for any comments. Brett F. Woods Santa Fe, New Mexico

    3. Posted on: York County, VA -- Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/York/399 Surname: ROGERS ------------------------- There is not such a person as Doswell Charles Rogers. This is inaccurate information that someone has put on the web. There is a Doswell Rogers b. in 1736. The place is unknown, however we are working on the theory that his parents could be Adduston Rogers and Catherine Doswell. In that case his family has been in York Co. for years. They are not newcomers to the colonies. Doswell Rogers has a great grandson who is named DAUSWELL Charles Rogers and was born ca 1832 in Marion Co. TN. He is part of my direct line. I wrote DESCENDANTS OF DOSWELL ROGERS in 1976 and will be glad to share any info. From Whom are you descended? Eleanor
