Posted on: York County, VA -- Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Va/York/417 Surname: Blagrave, Blagrove, Blackgrave, Blackgrove, Ballard, Mansell ------------------------- Does your research show any connections between the early Ballards and the Blagrave (Blagrove, Blackgrave, Blackgrove) family? I have a Henry Blagrave (b. c1655, York Co.) with a wife named Sarah who I suspect was a Ballard. Henry and Sarah settled in New Kent Co., but his mother, Mary (Mansell) Blagrave Heard/Hoard/Hard lived in Williamsburg. "Ballard" is used as a given name among Henry and Sarah's descendants. A 1686 deed from Henry and Sarah Blagrave was witnessed by a William Ballard, and in 1719 a Matthew Ballard willed a suit of clothes to Henry Blagrave (this might have been the son of the Henry and Sarah, since both Henrys would have been living at that time). What was the connection for Matthew Ballard to leave a bequest to Henry Blagrave, and for the Blagraves to use Ballard as a given name? Posted on: York County, VA -- Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/York/411 Surname: John Williams, Nathaniel Williams, William Williams, Randall Williams, Lewis Williams, Daniel Williams, Sarah Williams, Mary Williams ------------------------- According to Worth S. Ray in his book, "Colonial Granville County and its People," there were a long line of John Williams. The first one in this country and the county of York, VA was here by about 1645 on Queens Creek in Hampton Parish. His son lived at various time not only in York County but also in New Kent and Accomac. He died after 1688. His son John III m. Mary Keeling. They had at least 4 sons and 4 daughters. He died in the early 1700's. John IV was born about 1690 in York Co. or New Kent Co. He m. Sarah Henderson about 1711. He died about 1735 in Hanover Co., VA. His only known child Judge John Williams was born about 1715 in New Kent or Hanover Co., VA. He died about 1799 in Granville Co., NC where several of this large family moved. He married Agnes Bullock. There were enough sons from these families to populate all counties in all states with the Williams Family. I, personally am trying to discover if my Henry Williams, born about 1805 in VA, lived in Franklin Co., AL in 1840-1850, and died in Dallas Co., AR about 1879 could be one of this family.
