Hi, I lurk on this list, live in London KY and have to tell about going to Wise VA a couple years ago. To get there we traveled south through the Cumberland Gap tunnel then turned left to go up through Virginia. As we were going through Virginia, in the early morning, the fog hung on the mountain range that was on the left side of the road separating Virginia and Kentucky. It was so beautiful and as usual I had the feeling of being where my forefathers had been and traveled to get to KY. When we got to Wise, a lovely town, found it full of people(we thought there would only be a few) gathering at the college to hear speakers about the Melungeon heritage. People came from everywhere across the country and we all enjoyed each other and the area very much. We can be poor(or rich) and have a great love for family and the areas we are from. People are just different, some could be ashamed of their situation and it not bother others. I personally love Wise County and think it is very rich with heritage and should be proud.
