Hello list, I'm a newcomer to the list. I am trying to find some birth record for my husband's grandmother, Flora Belle Miller. I know she was born 05/25/1882 in Wise Co., VA because of her obit that I have. I sent to Richmond for a copy of her birth certificate and they replied there was no record of her birth from 1880 to 1889, so I guess it wasn't recorded. I want to find some recording of her birth to see what it says her parents names were. On her marriage license to James Monroe Minnix that I have a copy of it states her mother was Catharine Miller and her father Unknown. I do know on her obit it stated she was of the Baptist faith. Does anyone have any idea what Baptist churches were around in Wise Co. in 1882 that I might see if one of them might have a record of her birth or baptism? Someone suggested that I should check the church because even though a lot of births in those early years were not officially recorded with the state, they did record them at the church. Any help in this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
