    3. Today, Nancy Brown and I were digitalizing cemeteries in and around Pound and found a tombstone for Jonathan Hayes underneath an old smokehouse in the Flat Gap section of Pound. Jonathan Hayes was born 1777 and died in 1865. A photo of the stone is being sent to the shadybanks website and will be posted. Does anyone have any information on this Jonathan Hayes? Rhonda

    3. Hi Rhonda, I am not sure which Jonathan Hayes it might be as there were probably many from various families, if you find out for certain let me know as I have the following two Johnathan Hayes grandparent ancestors from that era living in and around wise county. We know little about them as far as family history or dates. We spell it both ways Hayes and Hays. The eldest of the two (the father Jonathan Hayes Sr.) would probably fit that time period.. I know nothing about him except he had a son also named Jonathan Hayes who married Melvina Short d/o Daniel Short. I believe on a Wise county marriage license it list the Senior Jonathan Hayes was a wittness when his son Jonathan married Melvina / Vina Short in Wise county. It does not say anything more about him. I do believe the Junior Johnathan Hayes was taken POW duiring the civil war, around 1861 and we believe he was then taken to Camp Douglas IL. where he died. We are egar to find any of them, family history or even the headstones. Most of my ancestors would have come out of the Flat Gap Area of Pound.
