    2. Marsil R. Creech
    3. Hi Jeannie, Some of my Cox names-mostly in Grayson Co VA and then Wolfe Co KY altho I am not positive they are not related to some of the bunch in Harlan, Wise and Lee Co. Joshua Cox my earliest is found in PA; JOhn went to Ashe Co NC, James first found in Grayson Co VA; John again, anotehr James, Fielden. There was also a Braxton Cox that migrated to Wolfe Co KY during the mid to late 1850's. Supposedly not related to my bunch. Wish I could be of more help. 3. Can anyone tell me where Preacher Creek is located in Wise county? Or would it be in Scott county? I believe it might be near Stonega. I would like to visit the area in the next few days. My gg-grandfather Samuel Stephen Stone was shot there on June 29, 1901 by a sheriff's posse for resisting arrest for running liquor. He died three days later on July 2, 1901. If anyone is familiar w/ the story I would love to talk w/ them. Also, I am trying to locate newspaper articles concerning the shooting. Yesterday at the Univ. of VA at Wise library, I found three lines about it in the July 4, 1901 Big Stone Gap Post. In the '80's I saw, but was not able to keep, a lengthier article with the headline, "Bad Sam Stone Captured By Posse" or something similar. I do not know what paper this article was in. Does anyone have any idea what paper it would have been published in or the names of area newspapers that might have covered the shooting? Sam Stone married Nancy Horton of Scott co Va. They lived in the Appalachia/Stonega area and Sam Stone was raised at Mabe in Scott co VA. His son, Guy Stone worked at the post office at Big Stone for many years and was married to Ida Pearl Taylor, who preached. My g-grandfather, William James "WJ" or "Bill" Stone was Guy's brother. 1. Re: [VAWISE] Census Lookup & BOGGS
    2. This Census look-up request reminded me that I have acquired an old photo of William Boggs, Jr. He was the son of William R. & Rebecca Boggs. He was the 2nd husband of Martha Ann Mariah "Patsy Smith d/o David Smith & Priscilla Phillips. Patsy's 1st husband and father of her children was Samuel Keel. I live in TN, and to my surprise I found that Patsy's grandaughter (and my cousin) was my neighbor. She gave me this picture of Wiliam Boggs. If any of the Boggs researchers would like a copy, let me know and I'll scan for you. Sorry for going into the details of Patsy's marriage and children. I thought that might clarify who he was. ----- Original Message ----- From: Melva Pearce <candlemaker@kih.net> To: <VAWISE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, July 01, 2001 7:16 PM Subject: [VAWISE] Census Lookup > Could anyone do a 1860 or 1870 census look up for Wise and Lee Counties? 1. [VAWISE] Burial Location
    2. Hi All, I recently visited the Wise Cemetery in an effort to locate my Grandmother's grave site, Josie (Mary Elizabeth) Sanders. She was born 5/1/1864 and died 5/19/1938. All information that I have found leads to the "OLD" section of the cemetery. I wandered through the area, but was unable to locate a marker of any sort. Does anyone have any knowledge or hints about how to pinpoint the exact location? I'd sure like to place a permanent marker and would greatly appreciate any help you might provide. Thanks and do have a nice day. P.S. Josie worked in the sewing room in Wise (WPA I think) at the time of her death. Her husband was John P. Sanders.
