Rhonda, My gg-grandfather, James Smith was living in Wise or Buchanan during the Civil War. He served as VA State Legislator from both Wise and Buchanan. His family lived on Smith Ridge and he is buried in Dickenson Co. at Nora or McClure. I don't know what the address is there. I have not been able to find any pension records, etc. on him, but he is referred to in several stories. An example, is where a Yankee deserter went to James (Jim's) father's house (George Washington Smith). The story goes that the deserter was there to kill Jim, but either his father George or his younger brother, Elexious killed the soldier. I have found pension records for his brother David. Perhaps he was in the home guard. If you run across any information concerning his records, would you please let me know. Just had to write and let you know how very much I am enjoying all the information I am finding in everything published, since these "Hills and Hollers" are my mountain home also. Brings back a lot of memories. Hello All: You are receiving this notice because at some time in the past you requested to be added to the update notice list. I have had some complications with my software and have had to revert to an old (backup) list. If you wish to be removed from the notification list, please respond to this notice with REMOVE in your reply subject line. I will promptly remove your address from the list. Hills and Hollers has had some new information added and lots of updates added since the last notice. The transcription area has a new cemetery transcription, the state marker page has new photos, the family history files have some updated information, the SWVA/NETN scenery pages have new pictures, etc. Realistically, there is more than I can squeeze into this notice. If you have articles, histories, photos, etc. that you'd like to put on the website, I'll happily format them. Remember, you own the copyrights and permissions, I just display them at your pleasure! I'll never lay claim to your property. Well, with all that said, I hope you enjoy the site. Hope that our efforts help you find a "lost" ancestor or bring back some good memories of days gone by. Sincerely, Wayne Duncan Webmaster http://www.hillsandhollers.net memorymaker@hillsandhollers.net

Hi, Recently a virus appeared to come from my computer, but it really originated in my sons computer. Before he moved, I used Outlook Express in his computer. He only uses Hotmail or Yahoo and never opens Outlook Express. Apparently the W32.Sircam virus, sent to his computer, got into my old, closed address book and sent out items from his computer. I also received the virus, but it was quarantined by Norton. The only way I realized what was going on, was when I received an email from someone in that address book and not my current address book. I'm sorry this happened, but it shows us how important it is for us to have a virus protection program running and updating itself at all times and NEVER OPENING AN ATTACHMENT if we aren't sure of the source. 'til later, Phyllis Morefield
