I just received a message from johnc@naxs.com with an attachment. It came through as being from Clarkston, not showing the e-mail address. When I sent a reply asking if he had sent an attachment to me, I later received a delivery failure notice with the address listed as _johnc@naxs.com. Don't open any attachments from this person. There is no message at all. He is probably not even aware he is infected yet. Carol

Thanks everyone for the input. I think I will look in Letcher County next. According to census reports James was born in Virginia and Nancy was born in Kentucky, so maybe they got married near her home instead of his. This couple lived out their lives in the Pound area of Wise County and many of their descendents still live there. I have found some of them, but I am still looking for more. Thanks again for the help, Cathy __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Hi, My name is Barbara Harris and my grandfather was Claude Fulton who died around 1926 in Norton, I think. I believe his father was Elbert Martin "Judge" Fulton. My grandfather, Claude, was married to Flora Macdonald and they lived in Wise County with my great grandfather Fred Macdonald and his wife Jennie. I would like to know how I can get information that would allow me to find out what my grand and great grandparents did. Is there someone who has some history on this family?? How can I get hold of copies of old newspaper articles from the early 1900's up to around 1926? I know that my grandfather Claude's obituary was on the front page of the current newspaper for the area although I do not know what the name of the newspaper is or was. Are there books or articles that I can purchase that would give me some history on my family? When I first began my search, I found some articles from old newspapers on line that had interesting stories on my great grandfather Elbert. When I returned to look for them again, I could not find them but know that someone has articles or old newspapers that would help in my search for my Wise County Family. If you could help me in any way, I would greatly appreciate your help. Thank you for any guidance or help that you can give me as I search for my family. I don't have anything on the marriage of James A. Roberts and Nancy Hampton, however, I do have information on the ancestry of a James A. Roberts who was the son of William L. Roberts and Susanna Kilgore, the dates seem to work out for him being the same individual. The only information I have on James is a note (unverified) that he died in Alamogordo, New Mexico
For those of you who were interested in where Tasso was located you can email Nancy Clark Brown at ncb01@msn.com and she can give you the location. Rhonda
Dear Cathy, I checked Wise Co VA marriages from 1875 to 1900. I found nothing for a Roberts marriage to a Hampton. It is a possibility they were married in KY or Dickenson Co. VA. If you have any of their children I may be able to locate them on the Wise Co. marriage page. If I can help, let me know. Betty
Hello, I hope everyone is having a safe holiday. I need some help with a marriage record for James A. Roberts and Nancy Hampton. They were probably married sometime around 1882 (I have been told July, 1882, but can't confirm). Their first child was born in June, 1883. James was born in Virginia (census reports) and Nancy was born in Kentucky (census). They settled in the Pound area of Wise county. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Cathy __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! GeoCities - quick and easy web site hosting, just $8.95/month. http://geocities.yahoo.com/ps/info1

Ole Paul was kind enough to point me to an 1895 map of Wise County that shows Tasso. It isn't clear to me where it really is/was, but it appears to be in the Birchfield area, maybe up what is now Beantown road. Can anyone please confirm that, or better define its location. I am also interested in what the major activities would likely have been. Was it a coal mining area, or logging, etc.? Thanks.for any help you may provide.
Seems like Tasso, Fasso, Faso may be Hungarian words...I checked out google.com and that is the impression I get.. Ole Paul "keep the mail comin' to Ole Paul......

Happy Thanksgiving all! I wonder if anyone can provide me some information on the location of Tasso, Wise County, VA. I have a postcard mailed to that address in Oct. of 1910 by a former resident of Wise County. So far I haven't been able to find Tasso on any map that I've seen. Could it possibly be Fasso? Thanks for any help you can provide. Best regards to all. An Oregon Ghost Chaser with roots in Wise County.
