It is fun -- and helps to keep me out of Walmart and off the streets! Just wish I had started this stuff many years ago, before everyone died. You know, we are still naming children the same names. In my family, there are half a dozen Amanda Bryants, Josephs, James, John, Mary, etc. -- guess it will never end! Have a good weekend. Mary Bryant Park
HI, You're probably right and down the road we just might come across a connection. It sure doesn't help when everyone uses the same names for their children, especially when they are born close to each other and then the census takers mess up on ages. WHEW!!!! ;-)) But isn't it fun!!! Diane. Crosstitch Grandma wrote: > > Hi, Diane. Hi, Diane. I'm sure your Combses and mine are connected, because mine were in Russell County, also -- but I don't know just how -- there were so many and they all named their children the same names!!! I am still looking for a marriage date of James Combs and Nancy Hobbs, about 1832; probably Lee or Russell Co, as well as the death date & place of their son, Solomon Combs about 1890. Thanks a bunch! Mary Bryant Park
I would certainly be interested. Thanks for all the work!

I need help in finding who CYNTHIA BAYS was and who was the BAYS that she married? We have great grandfather George W. R. Bays b. 1842 in Russell County. When he married Emma W. Shepherd in Washington County October 17, 1867, he listed as his parents only Cynthia Bays. In the Russell County 1850 census, we find: Ruth Bays 48, TN. Cynthia 29, VA, George A.(?) 7, James 5, John 3. In 1860 Russell County census, we find: Cynthia Bays 39, (seamstress), George B.(?) 17, James K. P. 14, John T. 13, Edward 9, Ruth Bays 73 TN. Does anyone recognize this family? Whoever the husband was, he must have died before the 1850 census, leaving Cynthia pregnant with Edward 9 by the 1860 census. Please help. I can't get past this wall! Thanks, Anne Hudson Bays
Thanks for your offer. I am looking for John Madison McFall(s). In 1850, he was in Yancey Co NC. His parents moved here into Russell and what later bacame Wise and Dickenson County. Hello everyone: While Cheryl is figuring out how to post the census information that she found, I thought I would offer to do look-ups from the 1860 Wise County Census. I recently bought a copy of the transcription that Rhonda Roberson did. Since this is copyrighted material, it cannot be posted wholesale, however, I don't mind helping cousins out with specific searches. If you want a look-up please send a message to me at mailto:[email protected] not the list. Include the complete name of the person you are looking for and any additional information which would make it easier to look-up i.e. wife's name, children, etc. Please don't send a message asking for all entries for a specific surname (for example, Mullins would include 37 households!) Thanks, Martha

Hi I'm new to this list. I am looking for the husband's maternal grandfather W. E. Sargent and his family. He was born approx. 1874 in Wise County. I know he married Lydia Clevinger in 1897 in Pike Co. Kentucky. He's on the census for Pike County in 1910. I haven't come across him in another census but I just found out he was from Virginia. I appreciate any information you may have. Thanks

Hi, I am also very interested in the WISE CO. census's. I have never seen them posted on the net. Thank you for being willing to help us with them. Tammy PS. If this is posted more than once, it is because the earlier ones did not make it to the list. I have also tried to post other messages but they did not make it to the list. I hope I'm not posting them wrong.
