okay, the Williams I have goes back to: Joseph Williams, unk. date of birth (dob), son of Carr and Khesse Hall Williams, married to Patsy Thompson between 1845-50 in Lee County, Va. They had 14 (!!!!) children, George, Emily, James, Vinnie (Graham), Keel, Alfred, Dudley, Creed Berry (my great grandfather), Mary, Morgan, and a set of twins still born. Ole' Joe hadn't enough to do so when Patsy croaked (after having 14 kids, I would do the same for some rest) he married Nancy Napier in 1883 in Lee County, Va. and they had three kids (if I was his wife I'd make sure he was standing up more), William Patton, Emory Blackston and Henry Howard Williams I think Joseph (the one that started all of this) was born around 1825, he's buried (face up of course) in Miller Chapel Cemetery. Do you know anything about a book called "Early Settlers of Lee County, Va.", volume 1? If this does not help or is not what you are looking for I at least hope you've had a giggle reading this. Hi this is for Paul, I do not have a lot on the Williams as I am just starting to play around in it but I know that the eldest Williams I have is Sam who married a Sarah ? and had at least the following children: Julida, Louise, Isaac, Sherman, and Charlie. I know nothing of the children other than Charlie had at least one son Charlie Carl Williams who married my mother in law. Charlie Carl was born March 3, 1934 and died in an automobile accident April 2, 1963 in Ohio. He and his wife are both buried in VA just outside of Wise although none of the children know the exact name or county of the cemetery they just know how to get there. We will be going there in June so I am going to get the details myself!

If you should see any "STRANGE" markers I would appreciate hearing about them. I am also searching for LEWIS HALL and his son MORGAN HALL. The both died on Feb 8, 1912; their death certificates state they were buried in Shelby Gap Cemetery. I would expect them to be buried nearby each other. I'll be happy to repay the kindness when I travel to KY/VA/NC the last week of June. Paul, I have been trying unsuccessfully to find out about Jacob F. Blair who lived in Wise Co. VA from 1854 to 1864 where exactly he lived....On 1860 Census it says C.H.P.O and I understand that could refer to 5 different places..(P.O. referring to Post Office)...and also he died somewhere in Denton Co. TEXAS or possibly Dallas, in 1878, WOuld love to verify this, there is a death date though I have never figured out where it came from since can't find any records. It is March 28th, 1878. Yes, I would appreciate any information you could find on a James W. Leach b. c. 1825 in Forsyth County, Georgia d. aft 1870 (we cannot find a grave or any markings around where his family lived in Talladega County Alabama) He married Sarah Watkins on the 2nd of January 1840 in Forsyth County, Georgia. They had 6 children: John B. Leach b. April 15, 1849, in Forsyth County, Georgia d. January 25, 1922, in Talladega County Alabama. Lucy E. Leach b. 1848 Randolph Leach b. abt 1850 Martha Leach b. abt 1851 Robert Leach b. June 1853 Pestilla Washington Leach b. 1856 (Need information on this one also please) I have traced them all over the South from Georgia to the Carolinas to Virginia to Georgia then to Alabama. At this point in 1860 James W. Leach was in Clay County Alabama. But loose him after that and can't find who his parents were or where he is buried. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My great grandparents and gg grandparents are listed in the 1860 Wise Co. Census as living at C.H.P.O. I know this is - - Post Office....and I understand there are 4 possibilites. I believe they were in the part of Russell that became Wise Co. I can trace no land deeds whatsoever from either Russell or Wise but would sure give anything to find where they were. Jacob F. & Louisa Hutchins BLAIR and Louisa's parents Jacob and Nancy Buchanan Hutchins were settlers of Wise Co.....anybody know how I can find where in Wise Co. they were at? Thanks John Blair

According to Civil War Records at the National Archives, Harvey Jones (son of James V. Jones and Sarah Elizabeth Ramsey) enlisted in the 64th Virginia Infantry, Co. H on August 18, 1862, in Wise, Virginia at age 18. He was taken prisoner of war September 9, 1863, at Cumberland Gap, Tennessee. He was sent to Camp Douglas in Chicago, Illinois on September 24, 1863, where he was held until he died February 14, 1864 from inflamation of the lungs. Harvey is buried in grave 1012 in the Chicago City Cemetery. They had a son Emmett Witchard who married Mary Alice Strange who later became my grandparents. They were both born in Wise and moved to Kingsport when my dad was a small boy.
