Ralph THOMPSON b.1583 Hertfordshire, England had 7 children in Hertfordshire. 5 sons and a dau. lived at one time or another in MD and in VA. (1)Maurice/Morris b.1604-d. 1676 in Buckinghamshire, Eng. came to VA in 1620 for 4 years and later ran a trading business bet. Barbadoes & VA. (2)Mary md Capt Wm TUCKER in Northumberland Co., VA. In 1623 she was in Elizab. City Co., VA census with husband and 3 THOMPSON brothers (Geo., Paul, & Wm). (3)Paul b.1611 was in VA in 1623, but nothing else is known. (4) Major Robert md __?__ & in Middlesex Co., VA in 1660 was md. to widow Mrs. Margaret WELCH and d. 1694. (5)William b.1613; went to VA; later returned to England. AND LASTLY, my (6) Col. GEORGE THOMPSON (b.1603-d.1690 England) who md at least three wives:Elizabeth ROGERS, Cleare__?__, and Abigail __?__. George was in Elizabeth City Co., VA in 1623, 1637 was lord of Admariothria Manor in MD and attended the MD Assemby. Then in 1640's ret. to England and fought for Cromwell and lost a leg but gained a large estate. In 1650 was back in Northumberland Co., VA. In 1656 George was in Westmoreland Co., VA Both Richard & George had land and were in Lancaster Co., VA. In Col. George THOMPSON'S 1690 will he mentioned: Grandchildren John, Richard, Elizabeth, and George SOUTH along with others. Possible brothers John SOUTH and William SOUTH immigrated to Northampton Co., VA in around 1655. My George SOUTH paid taxes in 1666 in Northampton Co., VA. George d.1698 in Westmoreland Co., VA. In George SOUTH'S will he mentions his 2 sons: (1) George SOUTH (d.1720 Westmoreland Co., VA, no heirs by 1735; and (2)John (d.1710 Westmoreland Co., VA, no heirs by 1735). Also George SOUTH in his 1698 will mentioned his two daughters: (1)Tamor SOUTH md __?__MARTIN had son John MARTIN who inherited 1/2 of estate and (2) my Joan SOUTH md Thomas (d.1747) LAMBERT of Westmoreland Co., VA whose children inherited Joan's 1/2 of George SOUTH'S estate. 6 Children of Joan SOUTH and Thomas LAMBERT were sons: Wm, Thos.,& John LAMBERT and daus.:Tamor who md James SMITH; Ann LAMBERT, and my ancestor Elizabeth who md Thomas STAPLETON who died 1771 in Loudoun Co., VA.
