Patti, Virginia Births, Deaths and Marriages: There was no systematic recording of birth and death records in Virginia until 1853, and such records were not maintained by the state government between 1896 and 1912. Copies of birth and death records (1853-1896, 1912-present) and marriage records (1853-present) must be obtained from the Office of Vital Records and Health Statistics, P.O. Box 1000, Richmond, Virginia 23208 (804) 225-5000. For a certified record, try the following: http://www.vdh.state.va.us/misc/gene.htm The only other option is to visit the Circuit Court in Westmoreland and search the Birth Registers there for a record of your great grandfather.
