Bill--I don't know if this is any help at all, but... I checked my books and in Virginia Northern Neck Land Grants 1742-1775 there is a mention of a Peirce Mozingo-- "P-181: Peirce Mozingo of Richmond Co. 200 A. in Great Fork of Rappahannock R. in Culpepper Co. Surv'd 9 July 1751 for Thomas Graves by George Hume and forfeited by Advertisement and recorded in Book N. Deed to Mozingo assignee of Thomas Graves. Adj. Lewis Davis Yancy, Robert Coleman, Sanders, William Tutt, John Schoolar, Robert Eastham. 17 Dec. 1772." Maybe this Peirce was your Thomas' father and lost his land somehow? Unfortunately my Westmoreland Co. will book ends at 1800, so the only reference I have to Mozingo is as follows: Will of Elizabeth Booth, 27 October 1708; 26 January 1708 "One-half household goods, one flock bed and furniture to daughter Ann Grimstead and her husband Thomas 5 head of cattle and hogs; their sons William one mare and Thomas Grimestead one mare, 1 cow and calf; Joan Stephens; son in law Esward Mazingo 500 lbs. tobacco to buy nails; and 5 head of cattle; grandchildren Sarah, John and Mazingo bed, furniture, pewter, 1 mare and 1 heifer." There are some very early references in Virginia Colonial Abstracts for Richmond Co. which mention a John and an Edward Mozingo. That's about all I can find. I assume you've written already to the county to try to get a copy of a will? Alix V
