I have 12 William SMITHS in my database. 2 of them are married to McCLANAHANs. My gr-grandfather was William Smith McCLANAHAN, his grandfather was William Smith McCLANAHAN, his grandfather was William Smith McCLANAHAN his mother was Martha Smith daughter of Peter Smith and M. Bailey of Westmoreland, VA 1600's. (FYI: the first two sons of every generation of male Mcclanahan descendants were named William Smith McC or Thomas Marshall McC. After the first son (usually named after father) the 2nd or 3rd son of every FEMALE McCLANAHAN descendant was William McC and Thomas McC it seems!!!) My Jane Ashton married Peter McClanahan and their son, Thomas McC (died abt 1806) who married a Elizabeth BARNES, had a son named Peter LAMKIN McCLANAHAN. They also had a son William. > > This is the second time tonight that I have seen the question per the >parentage of Jane ASHTON - makes me nervous :>). > > First - I am not sure which Jane ASHTON you are talking about.
