There is a very elusive gentleman in my past that has haunted me for the past 40 years as to whom his parents were, where he came from and why he settled om Berkeley Co. He was born ca. 1720-30, married a Joana________ and acquired land in Berkeley Co. before the 1800's. He died in Berkeley Co. in 1807 after raising a fairly large family which then scattered around Kentucky and points west. If you have come across this gentleman, I would appreciate any hints. Thank you Charles Noland e:mail reader@anet-dfw.com

I know that these ancestors of mine were in Westmoreland in the late 1600's, and that the families were close. What I don't know is where they came from. Rumor has it that they came from Maryland, but where there, and where before that? Also, are there any Tylers or Monroes still in Westmoreland that are descended from these folks? Thanks for any help... Susannah

Hello, My name is Wanda Nance and I have just joined this digest. Has anyone found any MINTONS in the 1700s in this county? I have a PHILLIP MINTON who married in 1776 in Washington Co.Va. and died there in 1805. Do not know where he was before Washington Co.Va. Also do not know who his parents were but believe his father was JOHN MINTON who bought land in Washington Co.Va. in 1781. PHILLIP is supposed to have been born in V9irginia. I am looking for all MINTONS in Virginia in the 1700s in the counties formed BEFORE Washington Co.Va.[1777] was formed. William McCLANAHAN purchased Richmond Co. land from Anthony MORGAN, son of Anthony MORGAN, 5 Mar 1749/50. An Anthony MORGAN md. an Ann Dunkin in 1711 in Richmond Co. According to court records, Anthony MORGAN was a Mulatto. This was in 1736, so I am not sure if this record refers to Anthony Jr. or Sr. I think in this case, the Mulatto refers to Anthony being an Indian and not a Black. Ann Dunkin is probably our Dorothy DUNKIN's (Widow TOWERS/McCLANAHAN) daughter Ann. Looking for information about WATTS family in Westmoreland: most interested in Richard Watts of Westmoreland Co., VA; died 1716 and his wife, Mary. They had 5 children, including sons, Richard and John and daughter Mary. Daughter Mary was the second wife of Col. Henry Ashton. Richard Watts widow, Mary Watts, died in 1737 as Mary Chilton. What was the maiden name of Richard Watts' wife, Mary. I think she is the orphan of John McClanahan. However, I am interested in anything about the Watts of Westmoreland Co.
