    2. Hello Brian, Will you please E-Mail me and let me know what I can do to help support the Westmoreland Co List, I feel that supporting the List is important. I'm still searching for my early PERRY Line that began in the County ca. 1668 with the Birth of my 8/9 GGrandfather: PERRY, William - but am sure that one of these days I will find him along with the rest of this Bunch of Gypsies - I only say that because they traveled ever towards the West. Thank you, and I hope to hear from you soon. Take Care MFIELDS155@AOL.COM

    1. [VAWESTMO-L] Virginia ancestors
    2. Jean J. Boicourt
    3. My BOICOURT family was wandering around Westmoreland and Rockingham Counties from 1774 until 1800. So far, I haven't found hard proof of this other than a marriage license between Ann Marg. BOICOURT and Jonathan YOUNT which took place in Rockingham County in 1790. The BOICOURT children, according to family bibles and family histories, were born in Westmoreland County starting in 1774. Again, no hard proof. BOICOURT, I am sure, has been changed from the original French spelling, and perhaps thats the reason I can't find them. However, the above marriage, which is documented, uses our current spelling of BOICOURT. Any help out there? Hugs and Happy Holiday Jean

    3. From: Brian Leverich <leverich@rootsweb.com> To: TEAM-ROOTSWEB-L@rootsweb.com We received calls today from Palladium and TLC assuring us that the December sponsorship check is in the mail. That makes things better for us in many ways, and we'll be bringing the Palladium banners back on line. While we aren't quite sure how the information flowed, it's clear that Palladium and TLC had seen postings by one or several of you on your lists. Also, we'd like to thank you because your recent efforts have resulted in a substantial number of new members. This puts us much closer to being able to do things like getting a bigger and faster search engine server online for handling your list archives. Thanks again, B.

    1. [VAWESTMO-L] Rootsweb Needs Our Help!
    2. Yvonne James-Henderson
    3. Everyone on a very limited income, those new and young genealogy researchers with young families or people who already give to RootsWeb may delete this message. For everyone else, I am begging you to listen. RootsWeb is run by a Mom and Pop operation called Brian Leverich and Karen Isaacson, husband and wife. They started RootsWeb out of the money in their pockets with the server in their home. Karen works for Rand Corp fulltime and Brian, a Phd in computers, does speaking engagements and keeps RootsWeb servers, equipment "pieced" together with whatever donations comes their way. Brian is determined to keep genealogy free on the internet. Our donations haven't been enough (about 2.5% of the users of RootsWeb sites donate) so he went out after a sponsor who wouldn't have strings attached. Palladium came across but was recently bought by the biggies, I think it was the Broderbund conglommerate - forget) and the money and equipment expected from Palladium didn't make the last payment. Soooo, Brian and Karen took out a $25,000 loan recently to keep our genealogy free out here. A thought has crossed some minds that the "biggies" are trying to break Brian and Karen down in order to get B and K to sell out to them. Brian and Karen are working to go non profit so down the road maybe some major contributions and foundation money will go their way. Brian says all involved in going non profit with an atty, etc, is mind boggling. In the meantime, RootsWeb is hurting in the financial support department. Anytime you are subscribed to a list or browse/search sites for genealogy information, note the domain in the url. Does it have rootsweb in the address? I am begging you, if you can afford it, to support the RootsWeb Genealogical Cooperative. If I have helped you in anyway with your research, would you please donate $12 or $24 to RootsWeb so we can keep all this great genealogy data on the internet free and even increase the data for users? I am doing my part by being a donor. Here is the site to learn about RootsWeb and the address to donate. http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/how-to-subscribe.html I know with Christmas we are all pretty well tapped out, but could you find $12 or $24 or even more by Jan? Think of those little pieces of paper with ancestors names on them that Grandpa, Grandma, Dad or Mom saved for you, how they would be flabbergasted at the time it is taking you to find a ggggrandparent by way of the internet and RootsWeb. By January, we will probably find the RootsWeb servers overloaded with all the new computers received as Christmas presents. It happens every year. A side note here - this is the best time to browse while everyone is in Wally World going crazy with shopping. Better get the browsing done now because January and the increase in people going online, it inevitably slows down. Thanks for listening and thank you to anyone who will contribute to RootsWeb. 1. [VAWESTMO-L] Macglohe family
    2. Don & Melissa Alexander
    3. In the Virginia Land Records, by Gary Parks, 1982, p 423: "In Indenture 10 June 1726 it is stated that James Macglohe (Maglohe) of Overwharton Parish, Stafford county, had a "now wife" Mary Macglohe and son Charles Macglohe. He leased land from William Mason." I am trying to see if there could be any connection of this family to the Anne McElhose who married Archibald Allen (b Westmoreland Co, VA in 1750-51) in 1788 in Nelson Co, KY. I find no other McEhlose-so I am trying to find the origin of this obviously corrupted name. Patti, Virginia Births, Deaths and Marriages: There was no systematic recording of birth and death records in Virginia until 1853, and such records were not maintained by the state government between 1896 and 1912. Copies of birth and death records (1853-1896, 1912-present) and marriage records (1853-present) must be obtained from the Office of Vital Records and Health Statistics, P.O. Box 1000, Richmond, Virginia 23208 (804) 225-5000. For a certified record, try the following: http://www.vdh.state.va.us/misc/gene.htm The only other option is to visit the Circuit Court in Westmoreland and search the Birth Registers there for a record of your great grandfather. AFAIK, the Circuit Court there doesn't provide this information via mail or phone requests. -- William G. Thompson Colonial Beach, VA

    1. [VAWESTMO-L] SMITH - HAINES 1703
    2. DONALD KING
    3. I have a sale of land in Westmoreland Co, VA from Wm SMITH of Richmond Co to Jeremiah Strother. Wm Smith received the land via an inheritance from Zachery HAINES dec'd of Stafford Co, VA. The sale was dated Feb 2, 1703 and recorded in Wesatmoreland Co on Feb 23, 1703. I would like to know whether Zachery HAINES is Wm SMITH's father-in-law. Also, I would like to verify whether this is the same Wm SMITH (ca 1644-1707) who was married to Anne (?) and who was the father of Mary SMITH. Mary SMITH was married to Arthur KING. Therefore, I want to verify whether this Wm SMITH is the same Wm SMITH who was the father-in-law of Arthur KING. THANKS!! Donald KING
