I found James and Jeanette McGinnis Grant while working on my family. One of their daughters was Mary Moore Grant, b. 1800, and one son was Edwin, b. 1809. Mary was reported to have married James Eakin about 1825. The reason I am interested in this family is that one of my great-uncles, Edwin Grant Coffman, b. 1864, has a name that may help me to find his grandfather, my gggrandfather. His last name was Coffman, but I don't know his first name. He was born in Pa. His wife's first name was Mary, who was born in Va. Going on the theory that her maiden name might have been Mary Grant, and that some male in her family may have been named Edwin Grant, I began a search. Mary Grant is the right age to be my gggrandmother, as my ggrandfather William was born in 1830. The other interesting link is that the Grants lived in Washington County, where my single ggrandfather moved at age 21 from Roanoke County. He married my ggrandmother there in 1852, the year after he settled in Abingdon. Of course the problem with Mary is that she married someone else in 1825. She could've been widowed and remarried, and that's what I'm trying to find out. Hugh McGinnis Grant is obviously one of the siblings of Mary and Edwin. Do you have any leads for me? Thanks, Sue Coffman
