Hi to all, I would like to make a correction to the notes on page 395, # 1670 in the "1850 Census of Washington County, Virgina Annotated" book. Michael C. and Michael G. Caylor/Kaylor are two different men. It is the household of Endymion Taylor and wife with their children. There is a note that has been added to it that says "Elizabeth Taylor [23y], dau of Dimmon and Elizabeth Taylor, m 11 July 1871 John L. Kaylor, [22y], son of Michael G. and Eliza Jane (Toncray) Kaylor." John L. Kaylor (Caylor) who married Elizabeth Taylor was the son of Michael C. Caylor and at this time we do not know his mother's name, no marriage has been found for Michael C. and his first wife. Michael C. and son, shown as Job L. 2 are living with his mother, Martha Gobble Kaylor on the 1850 census, Michael's age is off there by a few years. According to tombstone he was born 28 May, 1829, later census show a younger age also. Michael C. Caylor then married Mary Ingle, d/o Willis and Elizabeth Gregory Ingle. Michael C. and Mary migrated to Texas Co., MO in the early 1880's. All of their children including Mary's step-son and wife, John L. and Elizabeth Taylor Caylor came with them. Our family has always spelled the name Caylor although early deeds and census sometimes spelled it Kaylor like Daniel and Elizabeth Weeks Kaylor's family. Many people believe that John Caylor/Kaylor who married Mary Keaphart is the brother of Daniel Kaylor who married Elizabeth Weeks. Daniel's family always used the Kaylor spelling. John L. and Elizabeth Taylor Caylor died and are buried in New Hope Cemetery, Texas Co., MO. Michael C. and Mary Ingle Caylor are my gg grandparents and are buried on the John Henry and Matilda Caylor Wood homestead in the Wood family cemetery that has been in our family since John Henry homesteaded it in 1884. The earliest burial was in 1888 and the latest in 1998. Matilda was the d/o Michael and Mary Caylor. Michael G. Kaylor/Caylor who married Jane Toncray is the son of John and Mary Keaphart Caylor. He is in the John Caylor will on the Washington Co., VA website. He is the uncle of Michael C. Caylor. Michael C. is the s/o George and Martha "Patsy" Gobble Caylor. Michael G. and Jane had moved to Smith Co., Texas by the 1870 census, Jane died and Michael G. married again. He didn't have a son named John L.. He is still living in Karnes Co., Texas with his daughter, Hutokia and her husband, Joseph A. Newman in the 1900 census and is 89 years old. We have not been able to find a death date for him but he is not on the 1910 census that we can find. Michael G. and Michael C. are uncle and nephew. There is a note in another annotated census book about the marriage for Michael G. to Jane Toncray, under Michael C.'s family info, giving the impression that this might be the first marriage of Michael C. and mother of his son, John L. Caylor, 'taint so!!!! Page 462 # 1913 Michael G. Kaylor's notes are wrong also. The Mike C. and Mary A. Caylor in 1870 are a different family than Michael G. and Jane in 1850 census. Thanks for listening (if you did, smile) Marguerette Powell
