But I can give you a bit of insight into some other things. In looking at this family in the 1860 Census, I see that they live in Wash Co, VA, next house is a Denton family, then a McCracken family, then the family of Thomas J. Duff. I know exactly where they (Duff family) lived (house is still standing!) and it's at the intersection of Denton Valley Road and Alvarado Road in Wash Co, VA. My "guestimate" is that Isaac and Lucinda lived on Denton Valley Road, which is located in both Wash Co VA and Sullivan Co, TN. (Look at a map and see the "offset" between Wash Co VA and Sull Co,TN and that's about where Denton Valley Road runs.) I might therefore guess that Lucinda was born in Sullivan Co, TN. In 1870 the Tipton family is in Jonesville, Lee Co, VA and that's across the state line from Hancock Co, TN. HMM. So that's where Rufus was in 1880. Note that in! 1880 he is listed as the brother-in-law of James Speer and that Carline Tipton is listed as sister-in-law of James Speer. Surrena McDeral (could also be McDowl) is also listed as sister-in-law to James Speer. I might then "guess" that Surrena is the sister of Matilda Speer, James' wife --- and that Carline is also a sister to Matilda. HMM. So I would next look at Sullivan Co, TN and Hancock Co, TN marriage records for a marriage between Rufus Tipton and Carline. Also look for one for James Speer and Matilda, which, if found, might confirm the relationship between Surrena and Matilda and strengthen a "guess" that Carline is also their sister. I hope this gives you some ideas of where to look. I'm sorry I couldn't be of any more assistance. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
