The data I have on ALLEN MOORE and MARRY MARTIN is from Jack Cross who was the first Sullivan Co, TNGenWeb County Coordinator. He is a cousin descended from ED MOORE the brother of VENIE MOORE my gr grandmother. The last time I contacted Jack he was living in Knoxville and had retired from the Air Force. I don't know where or what he is doing now. He is no longer the Sullivan Co, TNGenWeb County Coordinator and all that I have contacted do not know of his current whereabouts. Another cousin, Louella Burnette (Roanoke VA) has verified that Jack and us are indeed related through Ed's and Venie's mother JENNIE MOORE. Venie lived in Louella's home for a number of years and passed on family stories to her. Louella's mother, DOROTHY CARRIER (married CHARLES W. JONES) is a first cousin to my dad ROBERT EDWARD SOUTH JR. Both are still alive. My dad knows of some of Jack's ancesters as well, and he knew Ed Moore. Ed and his descendents mostly lived in Knoxville, TN. Venie and her descendents mostly live in the Tri-City area of Bristol, TN. The problem I have had is the differences in the stories of Jennie Moore as handed down to Louella and Virginia Jones as Jack Cross knew of her. My line has Jennie having Ed and Venie out of wedlock whereas Jack has her married to Floyd Moore a son of Allen Moore and Mary Martin. What Jack does not have is what ever happened to Floyd. A fact he knows for sure is that Ed Moore was raised by his grandparents Allen and Mary and that Jennie took Venie and married Sam Phelps. The Phelps line lives near Blountville, Sullivan County, TN. This is known and verified in both family lines. In 6/13/97 I found W.S. Phelps and Jennie Moore licensed 6 Dec., 1883 but not recorded. I believe this to be a record of their marriage. Children of W. PHELPS and VIRGINIA JONES are: i. CHARLES PHELPS, m. KATHY BABB. ii. WILLIAM HENRY PHELPS. iii. JOSEPH ROBERT SR. PHELPS, b. 1892; d. 1959. These are half-brothers to Ed and Venie Moore. Jennie is buried alongside Sam Phelps in Ordway Cemetery as "Jane Wife of Samuel Phelps 1857-1931". This is known in our family as the grave of Jennie Moore. On Wednesday 11 August, 1999 at the Abingdon Courthouse I copied the Marriage License of Edward Moore and Olliene (Olivene) Moore. The license gave Ed's parents as Henry & Jennie Moore. Now this has thrown in another name, that of Henry. None of us knew of this until I saw it on Ed's marriage license. Another strange thing is I cannot find any record that has Floyd or Henry as a son of Allen and Mary. There is a daughter of theirs named Mary Jane. A fact that I know is one of Jennie's names is Jane because it is on her tombstone. My speculation is that Mary Jane and Jennie are the same person and that she had left her son Ed to be raised by her parents. It still leaves another mystery of what happened to Floyd Henry or Henry Floyd. If anyone on the MOORE list can shed light on my problem I would apprciate it. There are a lot of Jennie Moores out there which makes it extremely difficult to sort them out.
