My ancestor was JOHN C. PHELPS, the son of SAMUEL PHELPS, JR & RIETY (ELIZA) CHAPMAN PHELPS. Samuel Sr. originally came to Washington Co. then moved on to Russell Co. and lived around the Hansonville area. JOHN C. PHELPS married a lady named MARGARET c. 1867. She was from Kentucky. I once thought it was a lady from Washington Co. named Margaret Mann, but found out that was not correct. That was a different John Phelps. JOHN C. PHELPS moved to Pikeville around the mid 1860's. His son, WALTER GAY PHELPS, was my grandfather was born in Pikeville and grew up there. He moved back to Russell Co. in the late 1890's. He married 1st: ELVIE ELLEN CUMBOW; 2nd: SARAH ANICE METCALFE. My grandmother was Anice Metcalfe. Am interested in finding out about John's first wife ELVIE ELLEN CUMBOW. Thanks!
