    3. Hi List: For the past year I have been trying to connect my ggg-grandmother Rachel Whittaker to Moses X. Whitaker whom I firmly believe is her father. I corresponded with two Whitaker researchers in Sept of last year but neither was convinced my theory had possibilities. I am hoping to get a yeah or nay from other descendents of Moses X. Whitaker. 1. It took me 7 years to discover Rachel's surname. Finally ordered a death certificate for my gg-grandaunt, Julina Johnston Bledsoe. Julina is the documented sibling of my gg-grandmother, Lydia Johnston. The death certificate lists Julina's mother as Rachel Whittaker. 2. My ggg-grandmother Rachel Whittaker was born about 1821 in VA (probably Washington Co.) according to subsequent census'. 3. Rachel married Campbell Johnson/Johnston in probably Washington Co., VA in 1838/39. This estimate is based on the fact the Campbell was born in Washington and is with his parents in 1830 Washington Co. census and the birth of Rachel and Campbell's first child in 1839. Campbell & Rachel Johnston are found in the 1840 Smyth Co., VA. census with their first son. I have not been able to determine if they moved or if they lived in a part of Washington Co. which became Smyth Co. in 1832. 4. Moses X. Whitaker has 10 documented children. These children are documented with census and his will written 31 Mar 1871. 1. Male appears in the 1820 WCV Census, probably died before 1930 Census. 2. Mary Ann Whitaker, born 1818. 3. Daughter died as a youngster 4. William Silvester Whitaker, born 1821 5. Calvin Morgan Whitaker, born 1825 6. Lydia E. Whitaker, born June 24, 1830 7. Moses Whitaker, Jr. born 1831 8. Absalom Rufus Whitaker born May 20, 1834 9. Julina O. Whitaker born 1836 10. Eliza Adaline Whitaker born 1840 Moses died in Washington Co., VA on Sept 14, 1875 and is buried at Hayter's Gap, Virginia in the Litton Cemetery. 5. Rachel and Campbell Johnston had 15 children. Four of their daughters were named Mary (not very convincing), Lydia, Eliza, and Julina. Given the naming patterns of the time and the unusual name of Julina I feel I may be on the right track. 6. I believe it is possible that the third child listed for Moses X. Whitaker is actually my ggg-grandmother Rachel Whittaker. I believe that she married before the 1840 census and because she is not listed in the will that Whitaker researchers have concluded she died young. I am hoping someone can either disprove my theory or perhaps give me an atta boy to say they can understand my logic. I would hate to spend years on this if there is someone out there that has proof of the death of the unnamed daughter. Corinne Chadderdon Post Falls, ID USA
