Two other Wheeler researchers have evidence that the Wheelers came to NC from Washington Co. VA. This line has a very strong tendency to repeat family names - I have Hamptons, Byrds, Rays and Hensleys in this line (the women) and these names have been repeated numerous times as middle or first names of children - i.e., my great-grandfather is Newton Byrd Wheeler; his great-grandmother on his mother's side is Susannah Byrd. In this line, one of Newton Byrd Wheeler's brothers is **Mannin** Wheeler, b.c. 1866. An unusual name I've been wondering about....a faint clue? Mannin's and Newton's parents are John Henry Wheeler and Axey Mariah Honeycutt - Axey's mother was a Hampton, her grandmother on her father's side is this Susannah Byrd. There is also evidence that the Hamptons and Byrds originated in VA before heading to NC right around the time of the Revolutionary War. So now, a new l! ine to ferret out....did my Hampton/Byrd ancestors have a Mannin in their lines...?
