Can anyone interested in Robinson research please help me? There was a disputed court case: Wm K.Trigg vs Mitchell Robinson etal concerning the disputed authenticity of the Will of Jane Robinson of Washington Co, VA. bearing date Feb 21, 1835. The executor was William K.Trigg; those contesting the will were Mitchell Robinson, John Robinson, James Robinson, Moses Robinson, Alexander Robinson & John Edmondson. This Will is recorded in Will Book 8, p 119, Washington Co., VA. It stipulates the freeing of Jane's slaves and gives them a division of all of her property both real & personal. The Will states in part "it is my direction that my executor make earnest application to the Legislature of the State of Virginia after my decease for the passage of a law permitting my slaves to remain in the State of Virginia. Should the Legislature not grant permision, and in the event of failure, I make William K. Trigg the sole devisee of my whole estate real & personal. The Robinsons claimed this was not the Will & Testament of the said Jane Robinson deceased, and asked that it not be admitted to record. Upon an appeal by order of the County Court of Washington made on the 25th day of Aug 1836 the refusal to admit this to record ruling was reversed and the Will was ordered to be admitted to record. The controversy was such that the case was removed to Wythe County Sept 24, 1839. It is not known but speculated that Jane Robinson may have been the widow and 2nd wife of John Robinson who died in Washington Co. leaving a Will dated Dec 19, 1826. Does anyone have any familiarity with this court case? Does anyone know for certain exactly who this Jane Robinson was? Am very desirous of locating any published newspaper accounts or printed material regarding the controversial court case and will pay for any costs incurred. Thank You.
