It was founded in 1866 by the Rev. James Keys, at his own expense. It operated for 115 consecutive years. He ran the school with the help of his daughter for 12 yrs. When he retired, a "board of gentlemen from the Presbyterian Church bought the property and agreed that it should always be used for school purposes.
