    1. [VAWASHIN] Re: Frances Hopkins hung as a horse thief in 1780
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: HOPKINS Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/GBC.2ACE/391.1 Message Board Post: Mary Jo: I am also very interested in this episode. It is my understanding Frances was hanged as much because he was a Tory as he was a horse thief, but it is strange that his son Gardner was supposedly a Revolutionary War hero. Gardner received land grants for his service in New York and came to Floyd County, KY where he is buried in the part of Floyd County now known as Morgan County. He also had property in the current Pike County and my Hopkins family still lives on the creek (Gardner Fork) bearing his name. However, I have no connection (supposedly) to this line since my Hopkins came from Patrick County, VA in 1822. I am exploring this line and I would love to share information with you. Please contact me directly if you like at bhopkins@eastky.net. I would also like to extend the invitation to any other Frances or Gardner Hopkins researchers. Bruce Hopkins
