P. Cox on 19 August 1852. The minister was Geo. R. Barr George Ray Barr was- Methodist Protestent. A man of many talents, George R Barr D.D. was one of the founders of the Methodist Protestant movement in Abingdon. He is most noted by historians as one of the publishers of the 'Abingdon Virginia" Barr served on the Abingdon town council, was county treasurer, clerk of the court, and postmaster. Born 25 July 1819 he was the son of Dr. William Barr of Stokes County, North Carolina and Rebecca Ray, daughter of George Ray of Bedford County, Va. In Cemetery Sinking Springs there is a Rebecca, William and a William F. MD.
